Do bear with me while I update the site to the new ap_expr parser.
Some features which I found useful are no longer available under SSI, and I am finding the challenge stimulating.
I am revising my link organization and some categories may be missing links, but all the pdf files remain, and may be browsed easily.
Still, evey item on this site is either copyright free or something I have created myself. Creative Commons or Public Domain Content

    Father, We Praise Thee, Now the Night is Over

    Father We Praise Thee

    Gregory the Great

    Father, we praise Thee, now the night is over;
    Active and watchful, stand we all before Thee;
    Singing we offer prayer and meditation:
    Thus we adore Thee.

    Monarch of all things, fit us for Thy mansions;
    Banish our weakness, health and wholeness sending;
    Bring us to heaven where Thy saints united
    Joy without ending.

    All-holy Father, Son and equal Spirit,
    Trinity blesses, send us Thy salvation;
    Thine is the glory, gleaming and resounding
    Through all creation.

    Pope Gregory is the Gregory
    of gregorian chant, however
    he wrote the words for
    Father, We Praise Thee,
     Now the Night is Over,
     and the tune Christe Sanctorum
    is anonymous.

    Gregory the Great

    The words were written by Pope Gregory I
    Yes, prelates have been songwriters.
    St. Gregory was the Bishop of Rome (aka. Pope) from September 3, 590 until his death on March 12, 604. He was born into a wealthy, empowered family of Rome, but the Plague of Justinian caused famine and tragedy when he was about two. When he was about six, Rome was sacked, and almost the entire population was destroyed or became refugees.
    We do not know what happened to him and his family, but they had estates in Sicily.
    In his time, he saw the Franks, Goths, Visigoths acquire Christian trappings. The capital of the Roman Empire was at Constantinople, and the Roman popes were required to have the approval of the Byzantine Emperor.
    Christe Sanctorum

    This tune was collected by Gregory the Great, also known as Pope Gregory I who revised liturgical music. He did, in fact, write the words to Father We Praise Thee, set to this tune.

    Chiste Sanctorum Pope Gregory the Great did not write this tune, but he is the reason Gregorian chant isn't called anything else. He did compose music.
    He is credited with writing these words.
    These words (or a Latin version of them) seem to have been associated with Gregorian chants very much like Christe Sanctorum, but not identical to it. Indeed, the first version of this tune on the printed page was not until the 1700s, many years after this poem first was (probably) used in worship.

    Father, we praise you, now the night is over. Words written by Pope Gregory the Great. He was a person who saw much turmoil in his life, which was filled with war, political turmoil, and much violence. Yet here is a poem of calm and serenity.
